The Enhanced Solar Lander® SL1E

The SL1E package consists of the Solar Lander® with Dusk to Dawn sensor plus a multi-function high efficiency 270W folding (suitcase style) solar panel. The panel includes an integrated charge controller for direct battery connection and a separate output to connect to a remote charge controller or portable power station. An 8 metre charging cable is also included. The Solar Lander® holds and rotates the panel to follow the sun, achieving up to 40% more power. Even if its cloudy, the solar panel will point towards the suns position and will still generate energy to charge your battery. It provides single axis tracking and the ability to adjust vertical axis for time of year. Ideal for a small to medium off-grid power setup. Markets include camping, houseboats, festivals, and glamping pods. A truly portable off-grid system.

The SL1E enhanced Solar Lander® model now includes an electro-magnetic ‘disc brake’ system providing additional stability in windy conditions.

How it works

The Solar Lander® has a low energy motor and clever electronics enabling it to rotate the 270W panel at the same pace as we do around the sun and is powered by the solar panel charge controller. The panel comes with an 8 metre charging cable which can be connected to any 12v battery setup or vehicle battery.

Dusk - Dawn sensor

The Dusk-Dawn sensor will detect sunset, stop the rotation, and automatically return the solar panel to face sunrise position in readiness to begin tracking the sun again in the morning.

The solar panel includes a stylish carry case with a zip up pocket for accessories

Additional Features

The Solar Lander® also includes a security fixing point, clockwise / anticlockwise tracking rotation for northern / southern hemisphere, leg and solar panel tilt adjustment, and a collapsible design for compact stowage.

The Solar Lander® packs away neatly into a bag 60cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Setup & Resources

  • The 1st generation Solar Lander® did not not come with a solar panel. However the new SL1E package will include a 270W ‘suitcase’ panel with everything you need.

  • The Solar Lander® SL1E package includes a high efficiency 270W solar panel chosen specifically to use with the Lander.

  • During setup, the panel should be positioned to face the sun using the panel’s shadow to assist alignment, preventing the risk of eye damage.

If the Dusk-Dawn accessory is used, the Lander should be positioned with the triangular logo facing sunrise position. Then the panel should be rotated to face the current suns position.

The final adjustment can be achieved using control buttons on the main housing which electrically move the panel left or right.

Once it’s up and running, it will then automatically rotate at the same pace as the sun either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending if you are in the northern or southern hemisphere.

  • Yes, you can watch the Solar Lander® in “demo” mode here

  • Unlike most solar trackers, the Solar Lander® will continue to face the suns position irrespective of cloud density and will therefore still be using the suns rays to add charge to your battery setup.

  • One of the design criteria was that it had to be low energy to ensure that most of the solar panel energy output is used to charge the battery setup. When the Solar Lander® is in standby mode it only draws 20mA from the battery. The rotation power has been increased on the new SL1E model by incorporating an electro magnetic brake which is only active for the time it is rotating but the energy used is still very low compared to the energy provided by the solar panel.

FAQs

  • Set up takes less than 15 minutes. The three legs are assembled onto the main control unit and secured into the ground with tent pegs.

The support arms are then attached and adjusted to the desired angle.

You then lift your solar panel into place and secure it down tightly.
